Just yesterday I was in a lecture regarding mountain top removal coal mining that is happening one state over from me here in the US in West Virginia and visiable in Google Earth. I asked the professor, "Doesn't coal turn into diamonds?". I knew the answer but I was making the point, as you say, "trust in time". Keep the mountains and we could have diamonds! LOVE IT! It's amazing to me that coal could be more valuble than diamonds
